CLASS LEVELS

If you are unsure which level suits you best, you are very welcome to try out several classes - many of our dancers attend a range of levels each week, to consolidate technique and push themselves to learn new steps.

BEGINNER 1
Designed for those with very little or no experience of ballet. Never danced before? Or maybe you gave up when you were five? This class is for you. You will learn basic ballet positions and steps, stretching exercises and more.

BEGINNER 2
Designed for those with a little experience or that have already attended our beginner 1 classes and are looking to learn more. It continues where Beginner 1 leaves off, introducing new steps and positions.

PRE-INTERMEDIATE
A CUBC institution; a supremely relaxed class suitable for a Friday evening. Historically attended by people of lots of different levels looking for the perfect end to the week; a non-school night ballet class in a pleasant atmosphere. Slightly more difficult than improvers but not as difficult as intermediate.

IMPROVERS
Designed for anyone at any level, but is geared towards people between Beginners 2 and Intermediate-Advanced. This class focuses on improving technique. It will break down complex steps in order to practice and master them. Some classes may be focussed on a specific step.

BEGINNING POINTE
Designed for those who hold at least a pre-intermediate level on flat and who wish to learn to work en pointe. This class will focus on developing the strength necessary for pointe work and basic pointe technique.
Please Note: If you have not done pointe work before, please attend this class in your flat shoes before purchasing pointe shoes. For your health and safety, it is necessary for the teacher to assess your readiness for pointe work.

INTERMEDIATE
Designed for those who have experience with basic ballet vocabulary, the structure of a typical class, general steps, etc. This class is taken at a faster pace, designed to improve your ballet knowledge, technique, musicality and expressiveness.

INTERMEDIATE POINTE
Designed for those who have already developed the strength required for pointe and are looking to progress. This class will continue to involve strengthening excercises, but will also introduce new steps and combinations en pointe.

Please note that when intermediate point classes happen after an inter-advanced class level will be slightly higher as it is expected that the audience has more experience.

INTER-ADVANCED
Designed to bridge the gap between intermediate and advanced classes as it introduces more complex technique and combinations. If you are at intermediate level it will help you improve and expand your technical repertoire. If you are at an advanced level, it help you continue to build strength and technique.

ADVANCED
Designed for those with extensive experience in ballet, usually several years of class. Advanced classes teach more complex technique and emphasize musicality, artistry, and developing your own sense of style. It is suitable for those with considerable previous training, general proficiency in ballet vocabulary, and, most importantly, a genuine desire to learn and work towards a higher level of ballet performance.

ADVANCED POINTE
This class is for dancers who have several years experience dancing en pointe, and want to practice advanced pointe steps and variations.

PAS DE DEUX
Pas De Deux is dancing with a partner. It is intended for anyone from intermediate and above levels for female-role dancers, however participation en pointe is strongly recommended. No prior ballet experience is required for male-role dancers. This class will teach partnering steps, balances, turns, jumps and lifts.

Please note: either role is available for any gender however male-roles require more strength.

DISCOVERING REPERTOIRE
Designed for anyone from intermediate and above who wants to practice ballet through learning variations rather than class combinations. This class will teach set choreography and may build from week to week, so regular attendance is strongly recommended but not essential. The class can be taken on flat or en pointe.

DANCE FITNESS
Designed for anyone at any level who would like to improve their fitness through conditioning. This class will teach stretching and strengthening exercises that will help build up your body.
