"The day breaks, shedding warm light on four cygnets drifting on the lake. The other birds begin to awake – two cuckoos call from a tree, a bluebird replies, and by noon all the birds are singing and fluttering through the air. As dusk draws nearer, the mournful curlew calls from the marshes, and the blackbirds fly home to roost. The sun sets and the nightingales begin their plaintive song, as a single swan drifts on the lake in the moonlight."
In June 2015 the Cambridge Ballet Club produced a brand new performance, the Ballet of the Birds, at the Sidney Sussex Arts Festival. With music including Tchaikovsky, Saint-Saëns and Stravinsky and poetry readings interweaved between the dances, the production featured some of Cambridge's finest dancing talent. |
