JewelsThe Ballet Club performed three pieces as part of the Cambridge University Dance Society's show at the ADC theatre, Spectrum. The dances were choreographed by students, but based on Jewels, as choreographed by George Balanchine. In Jewels, Balanchine was inspired by the three great centres of ballet - Paris, New York and St. Petersburg. The three dances also represent the three main styles of ballet - romantic, contemporary and classical. First was Emeralds, in the Romantic style, and inspired by Paris. Rubies followed, a jazzy, contemporary piece that epitomised the bustle of New York. And finally Diamonds, inspired by the classical perfection of Russian ballet. Three stunning performances that truly cover the full spectrum of ballet!
